Lori Braun

Lori Braun owns and operates Laurus Productions. She is a producer and writer with over 100 hours of television behind her, in genres ranging from sketch comedy to science to true crime.

She has written and directed top-rated Discovery series including A Stranger In My Home, Imposters, Fatal Vows and The Will. Her science credits include the Gemini-nominated Mars Rising and National Geographic's Naica: Secrets of the Crystal Cave.

On Prophet of Ecstasy she served as writer and executive producer.

The company

Launched in 2014 with a story about stolen syrup.

Laurus began in January 2014 with Maple Syrup Mayhem — a documentary about the theft of thirty million dollars of maple syrup from a Quebec warehouse, and the federation that controls the supply.

Since then the company has moved between registers without much regard for the boundary: a science documentary on Quebec's fertility policy, two seasons of a web comedy for CBC, a sketch special, and a feature documentary about the man who gave the world Ecstasy.

What holds it together is a preference for subjects that sound made up. The maple syrup cartel. The priest turned drug kingpin. The province that funded IVF for everyone and then changed its mind.

Our work has aired on CBC, Radio-Canada, Discovery Channel, Corus, Canal D and Documentary Channel, and has been distributed in Canada and the United States.
